The International Astronautical Congress 2022 took place in the beautiful city of Paris from 18th to 22nd September. During the world’s premier global space event, DcubeD crew had a blast meeting the space community again and presenting in six technical sessions.
This year’s IAC broke all records by gathering more than 9000 delegates from 110 countries during the 73rd edition of the congress, and the host city Paris now holds the record of most IACs hosted. The 5-day congress had the theme “Space for all” with the objective of bringing together all space communities, start-ups, research scientists, manufacturers, students and young professionals, also not forgetting the general public with a dedicated public day.
DcubeD crew had a diverse set of technical presentations featuring our recent work. The presentations Manufacturing a deployable semi-rigid bi-matrix carbon fibre composite solar array for nanosatellites featured our deployable solar array PowerCube, as well as More power for small satellites: an overview of a one-square-meter 100W deployable solar array storable in a 1U form factor. Our sessions continued with our work on on-orbit manufacturing with presentations In-space manufacturing of external satellite structures: a review of existing concepts and discussions of their feasibility and Endless photopolymer tube extrusion for on-orbit manufacturing of satellite booms. We concluded our technical presentations with our take on Separation solutions for the next generation of satellite constellations and Shape-changing origami structures for adaptive space structure applications.
In addition to the rich technical program, the exhibition part of the congress welcomed 250 exhibitors. Visitors of DcubeD’s booth at the German Pavilion had the chance of a live demonstration of our release actuators for SmallSats and NanoSats.
And that was a wrap for us at IAC 2022. We are already counting days to the next edition IAC 2023 in Baku next year.
